A Travel Essay from the Inner Journey

Myth
The language of myth as the telepathic higher language of humanity
This line concerns the language of myth, which is the only language spoken and understood by all humans equally.
The language of myth is truly universal. You just have to look at folk and fairy tales around the world, or read the works of Clarissa Pinkola Estés or Sharon Blackie, to see the same storylines and motifs woven through the myths and legends of every culture. Cultures which had never crossed over still have startling similarities in the stories they tell each other. We can hear a myth from a culture entirely alien to our own and it will still resonate deeply.
Your Myth is Your Love-Language
People will often hear the word “myth” and think that this must be some made up story, but it’s not. Your myth, the myth of your life, is the truest thing about you, and calling it your “love-language” claims it as wholly yours.
Your myth is the story of love you speak to yourself. Your myth is your love-language between you and you. Yes, you may share it with others, you may even teach your love-language to your most intimate milieu; but it is essentially the love-language that can only ever be truly expressed inside yourself.
It’s a language so deep and primal, that you may never find the words to explain it to someone else. You may never articulate it in words even to yourself. It is like a quality of light, sunlight refracting through water; or a musical note so sublimely beautiful that it can never be played or sung.
But you know it. You know your own love-language. If you cannot hear it yet, it simply means there’s more work to do to excavate it from beneath the rubble of false narrative, false selves, and of other people’s opinions about you.
You need to be gentle excavating this myth, this buried love-language of yours; you need to treat it as the most precious jewel … you don’t want to chip any of it away; you want to gently clean it and hold it close.
You get to cherish this love-language. It is unique to you, and it is something really, really special.

Recognising Others’ Love-Language
And once you start to recognise your own love-language, you will start to see others’ languages of their own myths. If you can find their love-language, then, the teachings of the Sage reassure you, you will be able to access their soul. This is an interesting concept, and it got me thinking about the love-languages of the people in my life. My husband with his logic and facts. Meghan with her spirituality and creativity. My son with his need for leadership.
This is such a brilliant way to approach interactions with others. Instead of looking for strengths or weaknesses, Shadows or triggers, I need to look for their love-languages. Where do they live inside themselves? Where is their myth located? What stories are they telling themselves in order to survive?
We need to meet people where they’re at. If we encounter someone who is deep in their Shadows and seeking power over others, we reach them, not by telling them they are wrong, but by telling them we understand. We find a way in, a way to speak their love-language.
That’s not easy though. If someone’s love-language is hateful and full of vitriol, you’re unlikely to be able to reach them with messages of love.
You are unlikely to change their minds! But you can at least try to understand them.
We may never reach their soul. It may be that their love-language is so alien to us, and ours to them, that there can never be a soul connection. And that’s okay too. We’re all on a journey, and we may find ourselves travelling through lands with languages foreign to our ears and hearts.

Unlocking the Higher Language of Myth
As we, humanity, awaken, so we unlock this higher language that unites us all, and we can use it to shake off the fear patterns of the shadow frequencies.
The Sage’s Golden Path Retreat
I am feeling, every day, as if I am stepping into these higher frequencies that Richard Rudd talks about in the Sage. Am I reaching more people with my words? I don’t know. I only know that the more I learn these words of the Gene Keys, the more I want to speak them, the more I want to play with them and let them flow through my writing and my conversations.
The more familiar my Lovely Language becomes, the more I want to speak it to others.
I am less and less afraid of sharing my words. I am less and less afraid of being judged. If others don’t resonate with what I say, it just means, they’re not my people. The ones who speak the language of myth will hear me.
And that is all that matters. There will be others who will hear a strand of an old myth in my words, and that will be enough for them to start remembering.

Unlocking the Rich Narratives that Our Soul Can Resonate With
Leaning into my own myth allows me to see how I have been transforming my own Shadows, as I have been on this inner work journey. Many years, with many trials, led me to the cave that holds the treasures of the Gene Keys. I thought I was merely surviving, but what I was truly doing was training! Warrior training to ready me for the true mythic quest … the journey into my own interiority, the journey back to source.
When I stepped over the threshold into the mythic realm of my inner world, I was able to cast off all those false selves I had disguised myself with and step into the bright armour of the Warrior of Light. For my armour is pure light. It not only protects me, but it also heals me. It is part of me, part of my story.
Armour used to be there to protect me. I don’t need protection from my Shadows any more. This armour is my strength; it is my Perseverance made into light. It is my Dynamism made into form.
I live inside my own mythic story.
That is what I am here for. To take this story and scatter its seeds into other lives.
But mostly, I get to tell myself new stories. I get to peel back the layers of protection and reveal the heroine I have been all along.

The Greatest Story of All
What is the greatest story of all? It is the story of love, of course! This is the story that beats in every heart. We all want love; we all want to be part of a great love story.
But love stories don’t come from the external world.
If we want to attract the greatest love story into our lives, then we must start in our own hearts. We must build the core stability that means love has fecund, fertile soil to put its roots into.
And we must nurture it. We must tell ourselves again and again (and again and again!!) that we love ourselves.
Before we stand any chance of attracting great love into our lives, we must first fall in love with ourselves. We must fall in love with our own story.
We must find the words to tell ourselves how deep our love runs. We must speak poetry into our own hearts. We must woo and romance ourselves with tokens of love … a stone, a feather, a shell, a song, a pause, a walk in the sunrise, a kind word, a cup of tea!
We must write our love letter to ourselves, and it must be the opening chapter of the great saga of our lives.
And it all starts with the tiny jewel of self-love being allowed to germinate in our own hearts.

My Attraction Mythos Tells Me I Have a Gift for Finding the Stories that WILL Resonate with Others
I think the secret to this is telling the truth, and it lies in me being myself. My natural self. That is the part of my story that resonates with people. Telling the truth about the suffering and pain we experience as humans. Not pretending it wasn’t that bad. But being raw and honest about it. This doesn’t mean just showing the darkness. We need light too. We need to know that it is possible to forge a path out of the darkness, that it is possible to change the trajectory of our lives by changing our attitude.
The stories that resonate have no false positivity in them. I show the dirt under my fingernails. I’ve worked hard to get to where I am. Almost thirty years of doing the inner work has brought me here, to this place, where I am living inside the greatest love story of my life. And there have been so many milestones to celebrate along the way. Eighteen months to write my way out of a toxic, thirteen-year relationship. More years to find the truth that I didn’t actually need a man to make me feel worthy and to fully embrace my own self.
Then my true love came back into my life after a twenty-five-year absence and so began the next glorious phase of my journey where love blossomed into a garden of delight. Fifteen years on and that love is stronger and deeper every day.
And then there is the inner work story itself. I was twenty-five years into my inner work journey when Hayley Curtis, my guide and friend and soul sister, came into my life. At the same time came Meghan, the best friend I have ever had, my twin soul, my sister by heart if not by blood.
And then came the Gene Keys, and the story became a mythic saga, my inner world opened up, I opened up, my heart opened up, every damn thing opened up.
It’s been a long road, and there has been a lot of work to do, but I regret none of it. Every painful step led me here.
So that I can tell my stories and show people that just because life feels hard now that doesn’t mean it will be hard always. We have choices. We can choose ourselves. We can choose to trust the process, even when the work feels as if it is just taking us round in circles.
It’s the truth that always resonates.

I Have Built My Life Around this Language of Mythic Reality
I used to believe that my life was small and meaningless. I used to believe that I was small and meaningless too.
But I am not. My life is not.
I had already been playing in this inner realm of mine for twenty-five years before I found the language of archetype within the Gene Keys. I’d touched on it through the work of Clarissa Pinkola Estés and Caroline Myss right at the outset; but the Gene Keys, oh, the Gene Keys opened a door, a portal, a floodgate, that allowed archetype to saturate my life.
Now I swim in this vast sea of myth and story. Now I have words like Gift and Siddhi, Liberation and Freedom, Honour and Valour, to roll around my tongue. Now I have the language of myth pouring from my pen onto the page. Now I am garbed in the armour of archetype.
I don’t even care if the vast majority of people won’t get it or me. Those who do, will hear what they need to hear, and they will build a life of mythic proportions for themselves.
This work with the Gene Keys has allowed me to build my life around this language of myth and archetype. My writing has moved into this realm, and I am so comfortable there.
My inner world has become this fertile ground where I have grown a fantastical world of mythic proportions.
I am the heroine in that world.
I am the goddess of my own inner world.
I am all the parts of the story.
I am the landscape … I am the mountains and the rivers. I am the wide blue sky and the deep turquoise sea.
I am every living part of this inner world.
And this is not escapism, where I hide from the reality of the world outside. I am in tune with the external world, with nature. I am connected, I am aware, I am informed.
This inner mythical world of mine is not a place where I bury my head in the sand and pretend the problems of the world aren’t happening.
No. This inner world is where I get to work things out.
It’s the backdrop to the stage of my life, where I get to dig in and understand myself; like an intricate Shakespeare play or an enactment of a fable, I can see through the patterns to the truth beneath.
It’s the safe haven where I get to grow into the woman I was always meant to become.
My mythic and archetypal inner world is the fecund, fertile soil out of which I am growing a lush and abundant life.
And by sharing these stories of my life, I give others a glimpse of what they might do. For we all have this capacity to go inside. No matter how awful our external circumstances, our inner world is sacrosanct. It is literally impossible for anyone else to enter there.
We get to grow whatever inner world we want there. We get to create whatever inner world we want. We get to be whomever we want to be in that inner world.
Why not make it mythic?!
Why not fill it with wonder and fantastical life?!
Why not be our own hero?

The photographs I used in this essay are all of sunrises, most taken on my early morning walks, some on my morning commutes. My Flickr page is full of photographs of this beautiful Wiltshire countryside that I am surrounded by.
