An art journal spread with images of puffins with lots of quotes, including "begin again".

As I journey on the Sage’s Golden Path Retreat this year, I am beginning what I hope will be a consistent offering called Playful Puffin Adventures.

My playful adventure is to make an art journal page and an art journal process reel to uplift myself and others. Each of my art journal pages will be exploring whatever is going on in my life at the time … if life is humming along smoothly, I’ll explore a happy contemplation. If life is challenging, I’ll art out the grief or anger or sadness to come to a transformational place which also brings an uplifting emanation. There are a few threads that weave into the intent behind this creative play.

One thread is that I’m challenging myself in 2026 to uplevel my creative expression by learning how to use the iPad app Procreate and then to develop an illustrative style. I’m using AI too much for my own comfort now to illustrate my oracle decks and my inner journey. I’d rather have my own illustrations ‘reveal the sacred’ to myself and others. This learning journey will have me facing some serious inner blocks as I’m not great at being a beginner and my battle with perfectionism is real. I want to approach this whole process with a playful spirit!

Another colorful thread is that I believe my art journaling, which uses my hands and physical materials, is critical to my physical health and vibrational hygiene. There is something about the connection of my creative impulse to my hands and the process of making, ripping, gluing, forming lines and words, smushing on color, typing…. that is so satisfying and grounded and integrating. I want to continue to physically MAKE while I also play in the digital realm. So, committing to a rhythm of making these pages is healthy for ME.

The human hand allows the mind to reveal itself. – Maria Montessori

Another thread integral to this project is to enhance my emotional health. I was diagnosed with Bipolar illness in 1996. For decades I found great relief with medication. Then when we moved here to our ranch in Idaho in 2016, I let go of the medication. I’ve been successfully handling this disorder with lifestyle changes and going deep into the inner work. My Gene Keys chart is filled with invitations to find balance (even in human design my Incarnation Cross is the Left Angle Cross of Duality). To bring balance to my emotional health, I need to make sure I process my emotions and keep balanced with joy and creativity. Making art with my hands brings me such joy and arting about my emotional/spiritual life balances my energy. I am happy to make this a consistent habit.

Finally, the Puffin…. I’m traveling with the Puffin from the Dream Arc this year, The Vision of the Innocent Child. The Puffin is a Laugher and what do we need at this time to help balance the chaos of our turbulent world? Laughter! Play! Innocence and the loving kindness of a parent (us) to our inner children (also us).

Welcome to my small way of integrating transformation with childhood innocence and play. I will be holding all the Playful Puffin Adventure reels here on this post. If you want to see them as they come out, you can follow me, The Artistic Mystic, on Instagram or on YouTube

May my Playful Puffin Adventures serve to lift all of our spirits as we courageously come into communion with our particular brand of service to ourselves, others and our world.
